Introduction to Phu Quoc Island

Currency: Vietnamese Dong (VND) – Please use sidebar currency converter to convert to your local currency.

Phu Quoc Island Vietnam is located just south of Cambodia in the gulf of Thailand, I have visited Phu Quoc about three times and think its a great place to relax and take in a beautiful sunsets around 18:00 to 18:15 everyday. I recommend visiting Rory’s Beach Bar to watch the sunset, this place is very popular with western tourists.

The island is becoming increasingly popular with western tourists due to is beautiful beaches and great food. Phu Quoc has by far some of the best beaches I’ve seen in Vietnam.

Restaurants and Bars

Phu Quoc Island consists of many different types of restaurants, serving both western food and Vietnamese food. One of the most popular bars with western tourists is Rory’s Beach Bar; Rory’s is great place for cold beers and Western and Asian fusion food.

Another great place for cold beers is the Secret Bar, well the secret bar is more of a complex than just one bar, the complex contains food stalls, Secret Spa and S ClubS Club is a nightclub that is located at the back of the Secret complex. S Club is one of the best places for music from local DJ’s, cold beers and a pool table.

When it comes to restaurants, Phu Quoc has a lot, the main strip is full of restaurants serving everything from Vietnamese Food to Western favourites such as Pizza, Pasta and Burgers; If you want a choice of Vietnamese and Western food then you should go to the Pineapple Bar, this is a Jamaica theme bar that serves western food and Vietnamese food.

There is a also a great Indian chain restaurant called Ganesh. Ganesh Indians are located all over Vietnam I have visited this restaurant in Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Mui Na, if you like Indian food then this is a must.

When it comes to Vietnamese food there are lots of local restaurants. I recommend looking for the restaurants that have the most Vietnamese locals outside. If a large amount of Vietnamese locals are eating at a restaurant then the chances are this will be one of the best places for Vietnamese food. However don’t be afraid to try some of the restaurants that have less people in them, they still serve some great food and it also helps the local restaurants in the community.

Phu Quoc is also one of the best places to experience Vietnam for the first time, if you have never been to Vietnam before then this Island is a great starting point. It’s far from the Chaos of Ho Chi Minh City and the road are a lot quieter; Phu Quoc is the perfect place to hire a motorbike.

Phu Quoc Island is defiantly a must for travellers that want to relax and forget home; with its sandy beaches and crystal clear water you will defiantly be in paradise. Phu Quoc is all about relaxing therefore I would not compare it with Ho Chi Minh City in terms of nightlife. In the event of you traveling around Vietnam then Phu Quoc Island should be added to your list of destinations, it would be a shame to miss this beatiful Island.
